Are Dermal Fillers painful?

Dermal Fillers aren’t necessarily painful, but they do require multiple injections with a tiny needle. While we do offer certain options to facilitate a more comfortable experience, some patients find the pinch of the needle insertion to be uncomfortable and can cause their eyes to tear up.

How many appointments will I need?

You should only need one appointment to be able to enjoy the appearance that Dermal Fillers can give you. Please keep in mind that while dermal fillers can last a while, they are not permanent. Most patients can enjoy their appearance for six months to a year before they need more filler to maintain their look.

How long until I see results?

What to Expect on the Day of Dermal Fillers

We are happy to provide complimentary Visia 3-D Skin Assessments during consultations by using top-of-the-line technology from the Canfield. Following your treatment, we will provide another scan to asses improvements. When you are getting your Dermal Fillers, we will first make sure that you are comfortable in our reclining chair. We will make sure that your face is clean and will use either a cold compress or numbing cream to make your experience more tolerable. You may have some markings strategically made on your face to indicate the best spots for the filler injections. Each injection will take just a few seconds, and Dr. Kalika will gently massage the area to evenly disperse the filler. The two of you will examine the result and she will add more if needed. This process will continue until you are both satisfied with your appearance. Any markings made will be cleaned off and you will be provided with an ice pack to lightly apply to your face to prevent excessive swelling or bruising, and you will be asked to stick around for about 15 minutes to ensure you don’t react to the dermal filler.

The entire treatment process can take anywhere from a few minutes up to an hour.

Dermal Fillers Recovery

Once you are finished with your treatment and you are free to go, you can return to your daily routine, but you should avoid any strenuous activities for the first few days. You can expect some mild bruising, swelling, or possible discomfort after your injections, however, they should disappear after a few hours but may take a few days.

As you recover, you will be able to lightly massage the treatment areas or use an ice pack for up to 10 minutes at a time to alleviate any pain, but make sure you are still very gentle when doing so.
